You’re not getting either

.

Obama can pretty much do what he pleases.

If the law passes, Obama will have to treat detainees in a way that he does not have to now; i.e. he will not be able to torture them or send them for indefinite incarceration on foreign countries or just say “I think these guys are terrorists so let’s lock them up forever.” He cannot if they must be treated by the constraints of the Geneva Conventions on prisoners. Right now, because of Bush’s executive orders (which are not law BTW) he can do pretty much as he damn well pleases.

If a law as passed, even one that is as despicable as this one it ties Obama’s hands tremendously in fucking with American Citizens.

And If another Congress comes in in 2012, they can repeal this law and all the president’s power in this regard (torturing rounding up without due process) will be taken from him forever.

I suspected there was something else afoot here but couldn’t quite figure it out. The power hungry assholes in Congress have finally reached the limit on how much power they have given the president and feel even they may be subjected to it, are now starting to take some back.

They don’t give shit about us, only that Obama may be becoming too powerful and even they, Congress could be subject to indefinite incarceration and even torture as long as the courts have let Bush and Obama do pretty much as they damn well please.
